if you are doing any traveling around northern california for the most part, staying dry. tahoe, a great day to head up and hit the slopes. no chain requirements on interstate 80 or highway 50. yosemite, cloudy skies there, plenty of sunshine. monday, a chance of showers is possible into the afternoon and evening. tuesday, we clear out, we see plenty of sunshine for the first day of the new year. then, by wednesday. things look a little unsettled. we could see a chance of rain wednesday afternoon into thursday morning. mainly north of the golden gate. friday into saturday looks okay. but then saturday into sunday we could get hit with another little bit of wet weather into sunday morning. so, getting a quick check of the new year's eve forecast. planning on viewing the fireworks in san francisco. we are expecting good viewing conditions, midnight, though, it will get cold, 45 degrees. ann, back to you. >>> elizabeth, thank you. >>> a close call for drivers on a moscow freeway. the amazing pictures as a passenger jet crashes into the freeway overpass. >>> problems in his ow

as we head into tuesday we'll actually see another storm start to impact northern california and the pacific northwest so again we're expecting more moisture and the ground is already saturated from all of the storms impacting the west coast through the work week. and 50, to 70 miles per hour across the northern rockies and portions of california and a number of wind warnings and also some wind advisories in effect out here because of the stormy weather pattern that's in place. as we take a look at the future radar, basically the next 48 hours, a bit of a lull in monday, as far as rainfall through california and the next system arrives producing heavy rain across many of the same areas and already had to deal with it and as we head into some of the higher elevations you're talking snow for the northern rockies and also the cascades across parts of washington and oregon. right now, again, most of it's wrapping up. that's good news, seattle, portland dealing with showers, but northern california drying out little bit. as we head eastbound, two more things. the northeast areas of shower

northern california is going to get some rainfall. two things have changed. first, the atmosphere isn't as juicy. there's a certain water content that we can measure in the atmosphere and this particular system doesn't have as much as the past three that you endured over five days. so not as much juice in the atmosphere and notice everything is lifting to our north and west because that's where the focus of the jet stream energy is. it's been pushed a little to the north because of high pressure building in off the southern california coastline. so that near miss as opposed it a direct hit with less moisture means you're only going to get some rainfall so it will be slick and tough driving at times tomorrow but it won't be an all-day washout and won't be a concern like over the weekend. now, beyond tomorrow, it's all about high pressure and after a very cloudy pattern over the past several weeks we'll have high pressure building in and we'll have a dry chilly sunny northwest flow of air. we'll have highs only around 60 over the weekend with overnight lows in
